WideArc Mod Kit – Tarp Pole System

The pole mod kit is best used with 10ft wide tarps, especially ones with full doors on the ends. I tried the pole mod kit with four tarps: 3 from Warbonnet (Superfly, Mountainfly, and Thunderfly) and 1 from Hammockgear (Journey).

I encountered a few issues with keep the poles in place on the Mountainfly & Thunderfly tarps. I added my own piece of shockcord with loops at both ends to slip over both poles and keep them in tension towards the center of the tarp. This kept them from rolling downwards or towards the ends of the tarps. This is an extra piece of cordage that should be considered being included with future kits to keep the poles in place on 3rd party tarps, to create tension in both directions along the ridgeline.

The tarp connectors worked well with the kit. I discovered the Hammockgear tarp shared the same beastie D ring sizing as the tarp connectors which came with the kit.

For the price, it's a good mod to open up a tarp for the following use cases: using with bridge hammocks, using on Yobogear hammock stands, using above net tents for maximum area out of the sun/rain, and to open things up for better air circulation in warmer seasons.

It's good for using with car camping setups and walk-in campgrounds. Some gram weenies may balk at the 1 pound weight of the kit, but they can just use their trekking poles if weight is an issue like for long distance thru hiking. Otherwise, it's not really an issue for most people unless you're backpacking in a few miles with the extra weight.

Overall, I like it. It has a few setup quirks but there's ways to correct that as noted above.

Bought the mod kit when I purchased my ultimate hammock bundle.  I love how easy it is to install the poles and how much access it gives to the hammock.  The setup is an absolute must and adds very little room/weight to my bundle for hiking.

Had been thinking about something like this for years. Picked up another vendors UL tent poles for "porch mode" which worked but wasn't what I was trying for. These have been perfect. Work like a champ and do the job well. They also allow me to run my tie outs straight down to minimize tripping hazards. My secondary use case is to pitch my tarp on the ground if I don't have trees (GASP) and I THINK they will do well for that as well, just haven't tested yet.

Great Mod! Finally got to use it for the first time last weekend and it took the already spacious Hideaway Tarp and made it massive! So much room and super easy to set up and use.
